Any real people out there? Well, like the title says... I've tried this a couple times without much luck. But, I figure I'd give it another go. I'm a lbs, so I'm not a small guy by any means. Are You Looking To Be Happy In A Relationship? Get some Coffee-this is a long one! To trust your partner, is it necessary to reveal your "negative" feelings like sadness, anxiety or confusion? Or would you just rather be happy all the time? Sometimes, it just sucks! Job stress, money worries, death in the family happen to most everyone at some time. What does it mean to go through those experiences with someone you would trust? Would they react compassionately towards you? Would they be lost in that siutation? Would they themselves feel so overwhelmed by the situation that they distance themselves from you? Would they drink? Would you drink? Other can help us through. I know because I saw it on an episode of Two and a Half Men! To be with someone truly and deeply means honoring their experiences. It means that they may need space or they may need comfort from you. Or they may need your while they sort through their own confusion. Seems obvious doesn't it? But is bringing it out in the open necessary? Hell, yes! Despite being obvious humans have these complex brains that can think around emotions, to think while ignoring them or to misinterpret one's one feelings and those around you. Why should I have to feel stuff? What if there is something good on TV instead? This is the deal many people make without realizing it: "I wont honor my own sadness and therefore I wont honor my fully." Many will also continue this deal with the action that amounts to a statement like "When YOUR sadness comes I wont be fully present as a partner. In fact, since I have ignored/slighted my own feelings I will likey be less sensitive to yours." Its usually not a conscious decision-its more about what "works" in the short run. The long run is a 50% divorce rate. "I don't like pain, it hurts me."-Daffy Duck The deal that is taken by many is "I will shut down my ability to acknowledge my "negative" or unwanted feelings." Its not just the "negative" emotions its all of them that suffer. In turn, it's the person that suffers. Why? Think of the times you or someone you know wind up in the same relationship over and again. How did that happen? The same type of undependable person again and again. The question is "What were you feeling when you met them? When you began dating them? When did you start getting the familiar sinking feeling in your ? AND what was the consequence to you for ignoring those feelings? What are the consequences for ackowledging only certain feelings like lust or attraction at the expense of anger, uncertainty or revolsion? Why can't we just be happy all the time? Is that so much to ask? Is it realistic to be "happy all the time?" Some say "Yes, I am a really happy person!" Then I would ask, "so what would happen if you saw an ederly person being robbed on the street?" Happy? A minute after seeing that robbery you bounce back into a smile? Or would you be stirred up? Some people are born with different temperments-jolly, cranky, mellow, anxious, ect. But we all have natural internal reactions to what we experience. We do not have a one- experience, no matter the kind of personality we were born with. Death of a parent or friend can lat a long time-no matter how "happy" you are. Feelings=Motivation? Or hows your motor running? To be happy in a relationship requires that you have no other emotions? To enjoy your partner's company means being with them during times when sadness is present. To be a we have little in our brains other than the ability to read and express our emotions.To be alive means being able to express our reactions to experience. To shut down or minimize our ackowledgment/expression of our own feelings is total. Its like saying I am going to turn off my car motor except for 2 cylinders. Its either firing on all cylinders, running poorly or shut off. To connect with another means being with them. It means being with our own feelings. To sum it up-If one is willing to be very during a event then it is also true that the ability to be happy during a joyful time will be just as moving. Out of the thousands of eggs in our mother we were the one born into this world. we are given the possibilities of experience.
